| Light Exhibition: A celebration of Light |
'Light' exhibition is a celebration of light by New Zealand artists on now at St Paul's crypt in Symonds Street Auckland. It seeks to celebrate light through sculpture, painting, photography and moving image.
Light is approximately 20 works by 20 local artists, many from St Pauls Arts and Media collective, or SPAM for short. Both SPAMmers and non, Christian and non artists are involved.
The exhibition has come together under the efforts of Rachel Vernall, organising the artists with the theme Light in their various mediums. "All work must be consistent with the theme of 'A celebration of light'" she says.
"You may love painting, photography, film, sculpture, drawing, installations, graphic design, lighting design, wearable art, or all of the above. Whatever it is, it would be great if you have an art work you have in mind (or feel that you could be inspired to create one) that talks in some way about Light."
"Every Sunday, wonderfully creative people walk through those big doors of St Paul's." Rachel continues. "They have created the most amazing image that week, or had some great idea for a short-film, creative lights shining amidst darkness...how much brighter would they be all together in one space; an exhibition of light."
The A5 colour card-flyer as shown in the image above was designed by Melissa Bulkeley and the video-ad was edited by Miles Langley.
Many of the works will be for sale, so it's a great chance to get your hands on a local artist's work, with 10% of the sale price of their work donated to St Pauls with thanks for the use of the space and contributions to the night.
"Everything is on track for an enjoyable exhibition evening" says Rachel.
Auckland artist James Bowman is involved in the exhibition and doing graphic design for the artworks' labels. "We¡¯re inviting the church and people who pick up flyers in cafes" he says, but it isn't limited to just St Paul's members and artists. "Everyone is welcome."
